Adam Reed sent some photos of his Mere Mortal projects. He saved this wood post from the fireplace,

and turned it into this familiar looking box and candle holder. I love the candle holder design. Its like a cool recycled wood altar. He used a hidden dowel for the lid hinge on the box. Sweet.
